Olympic Park Mural
To celebrate the history of Heidelberg West as the site of the 1956 Olympic Village, this detailed mural was commissioned by Banyule City Council. Leafing worked with Robyn Shrives Design to realise the mural.
Featuring interlocking Olympic rings, it interprets the stories that locals recall about the Village. These are varied and colourful, from Mrs Katherine Blake managing all the housekeeping staff; to the gardener in charge of lawn mowing being too polite to ask sunbathing athletes to move; to the many children who hunted for autographs.
The mural is capped with carefully chosen flags representing the nations of people who still reside in the Village. The gold, silver and bronze rings are set within a bushland setting, reflecting the nearby creek.
