These historic gardens were refurbished and improved over two years 2009-2011, under the project management of Surface Consulting. While at Urban Initiatives, Katherine was responsible for the design, documentation and technical review of the major regional playspace within the Gardens.
Bringing both a detailed knowledge of the importance and dynamics of play and recreation, and a sensitivity to the heritage and scientific grounds for the site, she was able to design a space which knits seamlessly into the fabric of the Gardens. The design process included consultation with stakeholders including Heritage Victoria, and sourcing of local materials and artisans. The Gardens and playspace are now a major tourist attraction to the area.
